Jantschke returns, Bénes and Doucouré injured

With Tony Jantschke fully involved, the Fohlenelf took to the training pitch on Tuesday morning to prepare for this Friday’s home game against Werder Bremen. For the moment, both László Bénes and Mamadou Doucouré are out injured.

Under sunny skies but with temperatures just under freezing, Dieter Hecking’s men completed a 90-minute session. For the first time since his injury, Tony Jantschke was back training with his teammates. Denis Zakaria, who had to be substituted off at the weekend against Hannover, also took part in training as usual. There were, however, set-backs for two players who themselves had just returned to team training. Both László Bénes (pulled muscle) and Mamadou Doucouré (partial muscle tear in right thigh) have suffered injuries that will keep them out until further notice.

Grifo and Nicolas ill

Alongside the three long-term absentees Oscar Wendt (partial thigh muscle tear), Ibrahima Traoré (thigh strain) and Julio Villalba (muscle tear), Michaël Cuisance (ankle injury) and Raffael (calf problems) again both missed today's session. The latter pair will be monitored daily to asses when they can return to full team training. Vincenzo Grifo and Moritz Nicolas were also absent today with the flu. Tobias Strobl (cruciate ligament tear) and Fabian Johnson (back problems) trained individually.

On Wednesday, head coach Dieter Hecking expects his players to be on the training pitch by 15:30 CET, when his Foals will train behind closed doors.
